I have had many people ask me to install a shoutbox on all hosted forums. Some people have asked for chat software which is a little more advanced. Instant relay chat (IRC) is a little resource intensive on the server.. But it is possible!

on any forum-my forum has low members so would it be better people not having to register to post maybe?cause i can't decide i might just get a load of spam if people don't need to register

Well, you might just get loads of spam, I suggest leaving it but maybe turn off email verification.

Acually, Matt, you CAN put a chatbox on your forums using HTML.

That would need to be a modification that Alex or Matt would have to install on your forums. I suggest searching for a modification for this on Google if you want your Chat/Shout box to be linked to your forum usernames. Although, it would be extremely hard for Matt/Alex to install the modification
